UK firm Plastic Logic, a spin-out company from the University of Cambridge, has announced that it will build the world's first factory to manufacture plastic electronics on a commercial scale. Plastic Logic announced that it has raised $100 million (£50.6 million) in order to establish this facility at Dresden, Germany.
The company was co-founded in 2000 by Sir Richard Friend and Henning Sirringhaus of the University of Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory.
"This development comes on the back of a long-term programme of basic science supported by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council," said Sir Richard Friend. "It is this support that has enabled us to stay at the top internationally."
This story was covered widely, including on BBC Radio 4's Today Programme, BBC News Online and in the Financial Times.
